Day 1:

Introduction to Hero Unit (During the Exploratory Hour)

-Brainstorming in groups: What makes a hero?

-Create Surveys to be taken home 

Day 2/3:(Block Day)

Group A - Math: Statistics - Graphing Surveys and Analyzing Data

Group B - Language Arts: Historical Heroes: Character Sketches

Group C - Science: Introduction of Thomas Edison and Electricity

Group D - Social Studies: Introduction to Harriet Tubman 

Christian Perspective on Slavery 

Internet Guide to the Underground Railroad

Day 4/5:(Block Day)

Group A - Math:Drawing Conclusions from Graphs and an Introduction to Pythagoras

Group B - Language Arts: Presentation of Character Sketches, Photo-biography on a Hero

Group C - Science: Electrical Current

Group D - Social Studies: More on other Underground Railroad heroes and a critical thinking activity

Day 6:(Short Day)

Group A - Math:Hands on Proof of the Pythagorean Theorem

Group B - Language Arts: Author/Illustrator Heroes

Group C - Science: Electrical Circuits - Series and Parallel

Group D - Social Studies.  Jeopardy game

Day 7/8:(Block Day)

Group A - Math: Applications of the Pythagorean Theorem

Group B - Language Arts: Poetic Portrait and Bio-Poems

Group C - Science: Electrical Energy

Group D - Social Studies: Test or Lesson 7/8 depending on how the schedule works

Day 9:(Block Day)

Language Arts: Complete Poetic Portrait class book and Hero Holiday

Groups A & B – Math: Test and groups will present what they learned in their exploratory classes

Groups C & D - Science: Test and groups will present what they learned in their exploratory classes

Closing Event
